Injury Rules Nigerian Striker Boniface Out Of AFCON
Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after sustaining a groin injury.
Boniface, 23, sustained the injury during one of the team’s training sessions in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is expected to return to Germany where he will begin treatment for the injury.
The injury is expected to keep the Nigerian out for around six weeks. A decision is expected to be made on his replacement soon.
Nigeria’s quest to lift the AFCON for the fourth time has now taken another big hit, with Boniface joining a growing list of injured players that includes Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
