Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, says he is seeking the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to further develop the Ibom Deep Seaport, a key component of the State’s Economic Empowerment Plans.

The Governor made this known to State House Correspondents on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

He disclosed that President Tinubu has granted his requests to submit a memo on Maintenance Repair and overall of the facility which will better strengthen the operation of the Deep Seaport facility.

Eno affirmed that the seaport has the deepest wharf that can bring in ships from across the globe while it also serves the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.

The Governor said he assured the President that the Akwa Ibom State is currently making a profit from Ibom Air business while plans are underway by the State government to expand the airport facility of the State.

We’ve talked and requested him to support us with our Ibom deep support, and agricultural programme on the oil palm.

“The President has graciously granted that I bring the memo to the requests including MRO (Maintainance Repair and Overhaul) of course, the President is a businessman, so he had to also ask, are we making profits running Ibom Air? Because the government has no business in business I told him the government is completely out of the running of Ibom Air. Ibom Air is making a profit and they are plowing it back for expansion and the airport facility the second taxiway is on, we have the new terminal, we have the MRO and he was pleased to hear that.

Eno also made known that the state also requested the President’s support on its Agricultural programme on the palm oil industry which has been moribund for 28 years.
