The General Manager of the Federation, Emeka Igwilo, said on Friday that the 2024 edition of the event has attracted more participation than expected, as the event continues to be one of the core in the federation’s grassroots development.

Igwilo told newsmen that the zonal elimination is expected to take place across the six geo-political zones of the country simultaneously  from Jan. 20 to 28.

It is expected to produce the regional finalists that will feature in the finals in February in Abuja.

This year, 25 states have registered for the girls’ event, while 33 registered for the boys category with the zonal eliminations scheduled for Jan. 20 to Jan. 28, 2024.

“One of the key things that this event has achieved for us is the continual supply of grassroots talent that eventually fill up the national teams. It also compliments all the efforts of our development officers across the country,” he added.

The South-South zone are the defending champions in both male and female categories.
