Nigeria Loses Opening Match At Africa Handball Nations Cup
Nigeria’s senior men’s handball team, the Golden Arrows, began their Africa Handball Nations Cup on a losing note, falling 26-24 to Angola in their opening match on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.
Nigeria were placed in Group D alongside 10-time champions Tunisia, Angola and Kenya.
Team Nigeria fought hard as they tried to get the better of their opponents, but could not stage a comeback. Golden Arrows coach, Rafiu Salami, said the team fought hard but could not win the match.
“They will do well in their next match, we have identified all the lapses and we have to correct them before our next match against Tunisia,” Yola said.
“The boys need to be focused and must believe in themselves that they can win their remaining games.”
Nigeria will next face Tunisia in its next match on Friday, January 19th by 7pm. Tunisia defeated Kenya 59-18 in their first game.
The 26th Africa Men Handball Nations Cup is scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt between January 17th – 29th, 2024.
