Association to Explore Untapped Potential in Nigeria’s Forestry Sector

The Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN) paid a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Bisola Olusanya at the Alausa Secretariat in Lagos state, to discuss ways of exploring untapped potential in Nigeria’s forestry sector.

This visit was in anticipation of the 257th edition of FAN’s Annual Conference.

Extending a warm welcome to the delegation, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, the FAN President and Special Adviser for Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, conveyed his best wishes to the Forestry Association of Nigeria for a successful Annual Conference.

Dr. Afolabi encouraged its members to chart a new course and initiate various programs aimed at ensuring a more environmentally friendly forestry climate and contributing to a financially stable society.

During her address to the delegation, Ms. Bisola Olusanya, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, highlighted the unfortunate state of Nigeria’s forestry sector, stating that it is constantly undermined and does not enjoy adequate support despite its crucial role in economic development.

Olusanya assured the association of the state government’s support, noting that there is a lot of untapped potential in the forestry sector. She advised that more attention should be paid to such areas, especially as it affects climate change in the world.

In response, the Association assured the Commissioner that measures will be taken to ensure that the forestry sector in Nigeria receives the attention it deserves.

They also pledged to advocate for more supportive policies to promote a thriving and sustainable forestry sector for the preservation and development of Nigeria’s forests.
