Dr Afam Obidike, state’s Commissioner for Health, during an inspection tour of the facility in Awka, said the state government committed 10 per cent of the resources for the project.

Obidike said Anambra was one of the 22 states out of 36 that benefited from the grant aimed at improving the infrastructure used in the logistics and supply chain management of pharmaceutical commodities.

“The ongoing upgrade of the state pharmaceuticals central store will make it a standard medical warehouse. It will house only pharmaceutical goods because it is going to have temperature regulation and environmental conduciveness for the commodities that would be inside it. This is because the potency of drugs is always affected by where it is stored. I really commend and appreciate Global Fund and UNICEF for their continued partnership with the state government to improve the healthcare system in the state,” he said.

The commissioner urged the contractor handling the project to expedite action to meet the deadline.

He thanked Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for his continued support to the healthcare system of the state.
