Anambra Traditional Rulers Affirm Support For Governor Soludo

The Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council of Anambra State, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, has restated support for the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Achebe, in a meeting between the state governor and the monarchs on Tuesday, also dispelled rumours of discord between the monarchs and the state government.

He said the monarchs have showcased a shared commitment to the prosperous future of Anambra State.

Amidst recent controversies surrounding the sanction of some traditional rulers, the governor’s strategic engagement with the revered custodians of tradition has proven to be a pivotal step towards unity and progress.

Consultative engagements

The meeting was part of the governor’s ongoing consultative engagements with various stakeholders to assess progress and chart a course for the future.

Despite the short notice, an impressive turnout of 94 Traditional Rulers demonstrated their dedication to the welfare and development of Anambra State.

Opening the session, the highly respected Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, affirmed the unwavering support of the Traditional Rulers for Governor Soludo’s administration.

Expressing a desire to put to rest the recent controversies, he emphasised the need for collaboration and suggested a follow-up forum to discuss additional issues, including the welfare of the Traditional Rulers.

In his address, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, clarified the issues surrounding the suspension of a Traditional Ruler and the queries of two others.

Address Concerns

He assured the Traditional Rulers of the government’s esteemed regards for them and acknowledged ongoing efforts to address concerns about the composition of the Traditional Rulers Council.

Governor Soludo, articulating the purpose of the meeting, outlined the significant milestones of his administration over the past 22 months. He urged Traditional Rulers to actively participate in the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP), a key strategy of his administration for the rapid development of Anambra State.

Addressing the welfare concerns of the Traditional Rulers, Governor Soludo graciously accepted the apologies of the affected individuals, reinstated the Traditional Ruler of Neni, and forgave the Traditional Rulers of Ojoto and Aguluezechukwu. These actions underscored the governor’s commitment to reconciliation and harmony.

In a spirit of unity, the Obi of Onitsha and Igwe Ojoto extended votes of thanks, expressing gratitude for the governor’s leadership.

Collaborative effort

They also secured a commitment for regular meetings with Governor Soludo, showcasing a collaborative effort to foster understanding and address concerns.

As Anambra State looks forward to a future of prosperity, the recent meeting between Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Traditional Rulers has laid the foundation for a harmonious relationship, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving the Solution agenda for 2024.

Together, the governor and Traditional Rulers are poised to lead Anambra State to greater heights, united in their vision for a livable and prosperous homeland.
