Google announces AI-powered features for classroom management

Google has unveiled advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features at the Bett ed-tech event in the UK, enhancing classroom management, accessibility, and the creation of questions and lesson plans.

Google currently enables teachers to incorporate questions into YouTube videos within Classroom assignments. The company has announced that in the near future, AI will assist by providing question suggestions at various timestamps.

The company noted that the Practice Sets feature, employing AI to generate answers and general hints, is now accessible in over 50 languages. Additionally, educators have the option to transform a Google Form into a practice set.

Google is also introducing a new Resources tab to manage practice sets and interactive questions asked during a video. Its generative AI tool for Google Workspace, Duet AI, can assist teachers in coming up with a lesson plan.

Google said the Classroom updates will allow teachers to create and manage groups, assign varied tasks to each group, and utilize the speaker spotlight in Slides for narrated lessons with slides.

Educators can also easily  gather signatures for approvals or contracts using the eSignature feature within the Google Workspace.

The company is updating Classroom analytics, allowing educators to analyze statistics such as assignment completion and grade trends.

Google is introducing the capability to extract text from PDFs for screen readers on ChromeOS. Additionally, Chrome browser users can now highlight and have text read aloud.

The company is also enhancing Google Meet with features including closed captions in 30 languages and the capability to pin multiple hosts.
