The 12-year-old Student of Dowen College in Lagos state, Sylvester Oromoni Junior, who was allegedly bullied to death by some senior students of the college, has been laid to rest.
The late Sylvester Oromoni, who tragically lost his life in November 2021, was finally laid to rest in Delta State, Southern Nigeria after two years of waiting for justice.
Speaking during a press conference held in his honour in Lagos State, Western Nigeria, the Coordinator, Justice For late Sylvester Oromoni Junior Group, Mr. Regent Youmor said that the burial was decided on by the Oromoni family to enable Sylvester’s soul rest in peace after over two years of waiting for justice.
Mr. Youmor who described the late Sylvester as a truthful, respectful, loving and intelligent young student, called on Nigerian parents to give more attention to their children especially those in boarding school to ensure their adequate security.
“I believe what happened to Sylvester has taught us a lesson as parents. I will advise all parents especially those that have their children in boarding school to regularly check on them and ensure they are not bullied,” he advised.
He also called on the government to ensure speedy conclusion of the judicial process as he appealed for justice for the late Sylvester.
“Government should please not trivialize this issue. We should have respect for the sanctity and dignity of human life. Justice delayed could be denied,” he emphasized.
On their part, the National Publicity Secretary, Niger Delta Non-violence Agitators Forum, Henry Oyobolo and the Treasurer Ijaw Traditional Council Lagos, Mrs. Timipapaere Biegbudu also called for justice for late Sylvester saying they have been peaceful for the past two years patiently waiting for the conclusion of the Judicial process.
“For the past two years, we have been agitating for peace and justice for Oromoni family, we have never applied any form of violence. That shows that we are peace loving people. It is difficult for peace to be strong in the absence of justice. We are appealing to the judiciary to ensure justice for the Oromoni family.
“We also want to use this medium to condole with the Oromoni family. We commend the family for waiting this long and accepting to bury their son even when the case has not been concluded. We pray God gives you the fortitude to bear the loss,” they said.
Sylvester was born on December 4, 2009. He met a devastating end on November 30, 2021, succumbing to injuries allegedly inflicted in a harrowing assault by fellow students.
Before his untimely death, Sylvester was renowned for his exceptional intellect and maturity beyond his years. He had passion for knowledge, particularly in fields of computer science, programming, electrical science, and his special interest in football set him apart.
Highlight of the event was a peaceful walk to demand for justice for late Sylvester Oromoni.
