House Sets Up Committee To Probe Plateau Killings

Following attack on Communities in Plateau State North Central Nigeria, the House of Representatives has set up a panel to investigate the incessant terrorist attacks in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of the State.

The Ad-hoc Committee is headed by chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Hon Sada Soli, is expected to report back to the House within four weeks for further legislative actions.

The House, while mourning victims of recent terrorists attacks in Plateau State, urged the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to establish civilian joint task force in the state.

Compliance

The lawmakers also mandated its Committees on Defence and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance and “furnish the House with a weekly report until the insecurity is brought under control.”

The resolutions followed the adoption of a motion by Ishaya Lalu on Terrorists Attacks On Mangu Local Government Area Of Plateau State.

In his lead debate on the motion, he expressed worry on the incessant terrorist attacks in Mangu.

He said that there was the need to address the situation immediately.

On the 24th January, 2024, there was another attacks on the People of Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State killing more than 50 persons, others seriously injured, with over 1,000 Houses and other properties worth Billions of Naira completely destroyed. Most of the victims that sustained various degrees of injuries are currently receiving medical attention at different hospitals within the State, ” Hon Kalu said.

He noted that about 20,000 people were displaced and taking refuge at different Internally displaced persons (IDP’s) camps within the state.
