Cross River Government Lauds Nigerian Army for Security Efforts

The Cross River State Government has commended the Nigerian Army for its leadership role and efforts in ensuring security and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

The deputy governor of the state, Mr. Peter Odey gave the commendation during a remark at the commissioning of Nigerian Army educational project in Bedia community, Obudu local government area of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

Odey, who eulogized the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja for the Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Project in Bedia community, urged that the educational facility be upgraded to Command Secondary School.

“I urged the Chief of Army Staff to upgrade the institution to a command secondary school to enhance the development of the area and guarantee the education of more children.

“I am very happy that as a citizen of Cross River State, our brother Late Major Undiandeye has been immortalized. We are touched by that gesture and grateful. We know that you are going to do more for Cross River State. But, for this that you have done, Cross River State will never forget you,” he said.

Continuing, the Cross River deputy governor stated, “I also thank the Chief of Army staff and indeed the armed forces for the leadership given to ensure security across Nigeria and Cross River in particular. We are sure that you are going to put the security issues to bed in no distant time.”

He expressed confidence in the Chief of Army Staff and pledged a continuous synergy with the Nigerian Army to maintain the educational facility and peace in the State.

Fostering peace

Also speaking, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja noted that the CIMIC project was conceptualized and executed by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye “to meet security and socioeconomic goals and bring about peace, meaningful development, unity, cultural affinity and social integration.”

Lieutenant general Lagbaja noted that the Nigerian Army was in active pursuit of education for all as a means of achieving peace, justice, freedom and equality for all.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Undiandeye expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity opened for the children of Bedia community in Obudu to acquire knowledge.

The educational project has a science building, a hall, an administrative block, solar powered borehole and other buildings.

The event was attended by members of the Cross River State executive Council, top military officers and traditional rulers.
