Kano Government to Unify Tax Collection

Kano state Government, North West Nigeria, has announced that it is exploring new ways to unify tax and revenue collection and generation to block leakages and enhance the economy.

 

Governor Abba Yusuf in a parley with business owners in the state said, “my administration is looking at a modality of unifying the collection of revenue into a single treasury to block leakages and corruption. Please pay your tax, it will help the government.”

 

He also said that a committee will be constituted to work with the state legislature to draw a formidable blue print that will guide foreign businesses in Kano state.

 

He warned businesses engaged in hoarding products to desist from the act, in the interest of Nigeria.

 

Meanwhile, the Governor canvassed for collaboration with businesses in the state, to ease the impact of inflation on its citizens.

 

During the engagement with businessmen in Kano city, Governor Abba Yusuf lamented the daily hike in prices of commodities and stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to mitigate its impact and find solutions.

 

He said many businesses have shut down in the wake of growing costs, which has resulted to an increase in social vices, including Drug abuse and addiction, theft, and lack of jobs.

 

Governor Yusuf informed the business men that, “the government is aware of the difficulty and challenges facing you and your business and in the Foreign Exchange Market,” calling for stronger partnerships.

 

Therefore, he urged all businesses to ensure to pay their taxes in order to drive revenue.

 

Governor Yusuf called on Kano based business owners to come to the aid of the people of the state as the government is ready to give them the necessary cooperation.

 

Also, the Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo said,  Commerce and Industry is the bedrock of the administration.

 

He explained that, the meeting with the Kano business men was aimed at discussing the current economic issues in the country and find ways of improving them.

 

He said the Governor and the administration was concerned with the hike in prices of commodities in various markets.

 

Also speaking, Commissioner of Commerce Alh. Sani Abbas identified Kano as a an economic hub for the country.

 

Many businessmen who contributed at the meeting identified hike in FOREX and insecurity as among reasons for the rise in prices.

 

They called on the Government to stabilise the FOREX market and ensure steady power supply to support local production.
