Osun State in southwest Nigeria has concluded plans to inaugurate a government-alumni partnership board for the development of its education sector.

Governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, who made this known while hosting a delegation of Ilesa Grammar School Old Students Association in his office, said the Board, which will complement his administration’s efforts at repositioning schools in the state, would be inaugurated by the middle of March 2024.

He explained that the Board would exist at local and state levels with a view to harnessing developmental support from government and non-governmental sources.

The Governor, who commended members of the Alumni Association for their sustained contributions to their alma mater, stressed the importance of support from private sources to complement government’s limited capacity.

“I thank you for your efforts at improving facilities in your alma mater. It is on this note that I want to use this opportunity to announce the creation of a standing Government-Alumni Partnership Board at all levels of our education system.

“I have further directed the Ministry of Education to work out modalities for the creation and operations of the Board within the next one month. The Board is to be publicly unveiled by  mid-march.

“We must capitalize on the rich antecedents of our alumni associations to develop our education system. The Partnership Board when in place will focus on project development, learning equipment, training support and welfare issues for the school community.

“I urge this delegation to take the message to other alumni associations across the state.”

Speaking earlier, the National Vice Chairman of the association, Wale Bolorunduro, commended Governor Adeleke for the successes recorded while steering the affairs of the state.

He then pledged the association’s continued support to all efforts of government geared towards repositioning education in the state.
