The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed all chairmen across the 33 Local Government Areas and 35 Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs) in the state to return all the earth-moving equipment that had broken down outside their domains to the various council’s secretariats.
This was part of the recommendations on a report presented by the Committee Chairman on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, Akintunde Olajide, and adopted by the whole House, at its plenary proceedings in the state
Presenting the report, Olajide revealed that many earth-moving equipment at the Local Government Areas and LCDAs such as tractors, excavators cat, D6 Bulldozers, lowbed trailers and others that are not functional are still serviceable or need repairs for proper usage on roads maintenance across all the local government areas in the state.
The House has however urged the executive arm of government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, to coordinate the repair of all serviceable earth-moving equipment in all Local Government Areas and LCDAs as a matter of urgency.
In the same vein, the House also directed its Committee on Local Government to meet with all stakeholders and set the machinery in place to consider the increment of monthly take home of all ad-hoc staff of Local Government Areas in the state from N17,000 to N35,000 in order to enable them cope with the economic hardship in the country.
The House, at its sitting of Wednesday, 18th October, 2023, had directed the Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours to extend oversight on all 33 Local Government Areas and 35 LCDAs to have on the spot assessment of earth-moving equipment and other activities of the Local Government Areas and LCDAs.
The Lawmakers thereafter, adjourned its Plenary till Thursday, 8th February, 2024
