The government of Osun State in southwest Nigeria has approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers and 250 education officers.

According to a news release signed by Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke, the teachers and education officers are to fill existing vacancies in the state teaching service.

The release stated that the approval was given on Wednesday at the State Executive Council Meeting held in Osogbo, the state capital.

It also stated that the decision to recruit additional teachers followed the recommendation proposed by a needs assessment ordered by Governor Adeleke last year.

Rasheed stated further that the Council directed the state Ministry of Education to fast-track the process of recruiting teachers to strengthen the state’s primary and secondary education systems.

The release quoted Governor Adeleke as saying, “To achieve a lot, let us think outside the box. Let us be innovative. We should not be giving excuses. We have a job to do and we must deliver, no matter the condition.
