Google has committed to a substantial investment of 25 million euros ($26.98 million) in Europe, in a strategic move to empower individuals with artificial intelligence (AI) skills.

The tech giant announced this initiative on Monday, concurrently opening applications for social enterprises and nonprofits dedicated to providing AI training to those who stand to benefit the most.

As part of this program, Google will establish “growth academies” designed to assist companies utilizing AI in scaling their operations. In addition, the company is expanding its repertoire of free online AI training courses, now available in 18 languages.

Adrian Brown, the executive director of the Centre for Public Impact, which collaborates with Google on this nonprofit venture, highlighted the potential for AI to exacerbate existing inequalities, particularly in terms of economic security and employment.

Brown emphasized, “This new program will help people across Europe develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence around AI, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

This announcement follows Google’s recent commitment of $1 billion to construct a data centre just outside London, addressing the surging demand for internet services in the region.

The 33-acre site in Waltham Cross, acquired by Google in 2020, signifies a strategic expansion as the company continues to invest in both infrastructure and education to shape the future of technology in Europe.
