Association Urges Kano State To Sustain Emirates Councils

The Kano State Government in North West Nigeria has been called upon to sustain the existing Emirate councils for the preservation of Traditions, values and norms.

The Government is also urged to create more Emirates as doing so will engender political harmony, ensures economic prosperity and promote security in the state.

The Rakibu Community Development Association made the call at a Press Conference in Kano City against the backgrounds of likely dissolution of the new Emirates councils in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, Alhaji Wali Ado Rano explained that, sustaining the Emirates have the aspiration of the vast majority of people of the area.

He said; “sustenance is not by any means meant to despise Kano Emirate or any personality, therefore our bond of brotherhood would continue to exist between the people of the restored Emirates and those of Kano Emirate.”

Ado Rano noted that the sustenance of hitherto existing Emirates as well as upgrading of districts to Emirates should not be viewed with negative political connotations but rather be seen as a deliberate efforts to restore and preserve cultural heritage.

He said; “On account of Rano in particular, it has existed as an autonomous kingdom and ruled by several Kings Kawararafa and Habe. Rano had continued to be an independent entity with many towns and villages under it’s domain.”

He explained that, Rano like Kano was one of the famous seven Haus states founded by the legendary of Bagauda.

Economy

Speaking on the economic benefits of Rano Emirate, Ado Rano said, the Emirate constitutes assets of economic prosperity when it potentials are properly tapped and utilised.

He said, “the catalogue of business opportunities in this Emirate (Rano) is Agriculture, Mining, Smelting of Solid Minerals and Tourism cannot be exhausted. The Emirate is undoubtedly the most suitable destination for entrepreneurs for the smart investment, vision and mission. Direct and in direct job opportunities are provided.”

He called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to sustain the existing Emirates and disregard those agitating for the dissolution, urging him to create more Emirates as done in other states like Taraba, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe among others.

Ado Rano commended the leadership style of Governor Yusuf describing it as people’s oriented.
