Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has lauded the resuscitation of the State Children’s Parliament in the state.
The Speaker stated this while inaugurating the fifth Children’s Parliament in Nasarawa State at an event held at the State Ministry For Local Government in Lafia, the state capital.
He said that the parliament would strengthen the nation’s hard earned democracy and give democratic leadership knowledge and background to the children as leaders of tomorrow.
The State Number Three Citizen further said that the Parliament has been constituted as a platform to unravel the plights of children through policy formulation and implementation to better their needs in the State.
Democratic tenets
This initiative according to the Speaker, will be strengthened to teach children the nation’s democratic tenets.
It would be reported that Children’s Parliament has gone into limbo for a while and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is resuscitating the parliament across the 36 States of the federation and in Nasarawa State the Fifth Children’s Parliament was inaugurated by the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of ASSEMBLY Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau as a deliberate steps to key into the national policy for children.
According to him, it will provide a platform where the yearnings and aspirations of children will be brought forward for policy formulation and implemention for their betterment.
The Speaker assured the children parliament of his support to succeed.
Speaking, Wife of the State Governor, Silifat Abdullahi Sule represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Shela Tosan Akabe said her office would provide the needed support to the children’s parliament to enable them discharge their responsibility diligently and give them sense of belonging.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Aisha Rufa’i Ibrahim, noted that the Parliament would create a platform where the voices of children will be heard.
“It will also contribute to issues that affect their welfare and development” She said.
She commended the State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule for signing an executive order in 2020 to enhance the full implementation of Child’s Rights Law in the State.
Representative of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Emmanuel Oche Al- Hassan said the children parliament was deliberately resuscitated to give children a sense of belonging as a way of moulding them to be future leaders that will contribute to the nation’s building.
After the inauguration, the Fifth Nasarawa State Children’s Parliament under the speakership of Hon. Mary Owosenabi Oboshi from Obi constituency held it first sitting where she made a case for mechanism to be strengthened to sustain the children’s parliament in the state.
She also advocated for more funds to the Ministry of Women Affairs for the runnings of the children Parliament.
