Gombe State University announces Faculty of Environmental Sciences

The Gombe State University has established the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, to be located at the Dukku Campus.

It would be recalled that the Dukku Campus came about after the government converted the earlier designed School of Nursing into a faculty of the state university.

Making the announcement during a news conference in Gombe, by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Gombe State University, Senator Joshua Lidani, said the move became necessary, so as to bring the School of Nursing closer to the teaching hospital, to enable the students have easy access to the facility.

Senator Lidani who said admissions into the faculty would be done in due time explained that the conference with the journalists was aimed at highlighting the achievements of the university, as well as the giant strides recorded by the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya led Administration.

Senator Lidani said the Governing Council of the university had also promoted 4 academic staff to the rank of professors, 18 others to the rank of Readers, 85 other academic staff to various ranks.

“The council also recommended the promotion of 41 other senior academic staff to various ranks, subject to positive external assessment.  The council also approved the promotion of 57 non-teaching staff to various positions in their respective cadre with effect from 1st October,  2023,” said Senator Lidani.

He commended Governor Yahaya for being instrumental to the construction of a massive erosion control project in the university, as well various reforms in the education sector in the state.

According to Senator Lidani, the Governor had facilitated the implementation of comprehensive and decisive measures to revamp the education system in the state.

Particularly, Senator Lidani said the building of five mega schools, in addition to the the modern teacher training centre in Kwami, would serve as a feeder to the Gombe State University  and other universities in the country.
