The Nigeria Labour Congress has declared a two-day national protest slated for the twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth of February to demonstrate outrage at the economic hardship and insecurity faced in the country.
This was revealed during a press briefing by the president of the congress Mr. Joe Ajaero after members of the National Executive Council met at the Labour House in Abuja the nation’s capital.
According to the Nigeria Labour Congress president Mr. Joe Ajaero, the hardship being faced by Nigerians needs to be addressed and if agreements reached between the government and labour are not met at the expiration of the fourteen-day ultimatum by labour which will occur on the 22nd of February 2024 stringent measures need to be taken,
“If our demands are not met after the nationwide protest, NEC is to issue a seven-day notice that will expire on the second day of March 2024 to the federal government after which an indefinite nationwide strike will assure that Nigerian workers and people are not interested in the empty talk now, but action.”
On the issue of minimum wage, Mr. Ajaero said the inflation rate which has made the value of the Nigerian currency drop continuously makes it difficult to determine the exact amount to demand.
