The Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly in North West Nigeria, Jibrin Ismail Falgore, has urged ministries and agencies in the state to be mindful of how they handle public funds.

Falgore who expressed concern over the alleged reckless spending of government funds by certain government agencies and ministries in the State, informed public officeholders to remember that, public office is a public trust.

The Speaker said state resources should be allocated to benefit the entire population and serve the public good, rather than reckless spending by a few elements.

In a statement signed by his media aid Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai said, “We are troubled by the sheer insensitivity displayed by some government agencies and ministries concerning financial recklessness, which is not remitted to the government coffers.

We will not sit idly by and allow affected agencies and ministries to exploit the resources of our beloved state. We strongly oppose this and call upon the ministries, departments and agencies to remit their unspent balance.”

He said, “We believe that the amount generated from these ministries is sufficient to fund other projects.”

He reaffirmed the Kano State House of Assembly’s commitment to working closely with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to achieve positive results in terms of the prudent use of government funds.
