A notable figure in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), Mr. Chinemelu Ezeh, has advocated for the integration of AI technologies by the Federal Government to tackle pressing issues such as insecurity, healthcare inefficiencies, and financial sector bottlenecks.

Ezeh emphasized the potential benefits AI could bring to various sectors if effectively harnessed. He highlighted AI’s capability to perform tasks equal to or better than humans, presenting it as a valuable tool for national enhancement.

The AI expert underscored the importance of strategic utilization of AI for national development, urging policymakers to adopt a forward-thinking approach to maximize its benefits while mitigating potential risks.

Security

One notable suggestion Ezeh proposed was the implementation of AI-driven surveillance systems to combat criminal activities, particularly in urban areas like Abuja.

He outlined a scenario where AI-powered listening devices could detect specific keywords used by attackers in ‘one chance’ scenarios, thereby triggering alerts and protecting potential victims’ sensitive information.

Furthermore, Ezeh discussed the transformative impact of drones on modern military operations, citing their affordability and accessibility.

He stressed the importance of leveraging drone technology for surveillance of digital and maritime assets, aligning with global practices observed in Western nations.

Healthcare

In the realm of healthcare, Ezeh addressed the challenge of limited doctor-to-patient ratios by advocating for AI-driven solutions.

He proposed the development of AI-based diagnostic applications to provide efficient healthcare services remotely, reducing the burden on healthcare professionals and improving patient outcomes.

Financial sector

Regarding the financial sector, Ezeh highlighted inefficiencies in the current system and called for automation of processes to enhance speed and transparency.

He emphasized the role of AI in eliminating biases and streamlining financial services, thereby fostering a more equitable and efficient financial landscape.

Job creation

Ezeh encouraged youths to explore opportunities in AI, emphasizing its potential to create employment and drive innovation.

He likened the impact of AI to that of electricity, acknowledging its transformative potential while urging careful consideration of its ethical implications and societal consequences.

“AI is developing so fast that it’s almost moving faster than we can adapt to change, but at the same time, it’s not 100 percent. So, we are not sure what the future is going to be.

“However, what we are sure about is that AI is going to change the nature of competition around the world, it is going to change the nature of work in a very fundamental way.” Ezeh said.
