The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has announced the commencement of the second phase of the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.

The initiative, which seeks to equip Nigerians with critical digital skills, is poised to select and train 270,000 Fellows.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, revealed the launch of the second phase, emphasizing its significance in positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of talent in the global digital economy.

With the first phase having trained 30,000 individuals, the second phase aims to expand this cohort by 10%, totalling 270,000 Fellows.

Highlighting the widespread interest in the program, Tijani noted that approximately 1.8 million registrations were received from prospective trainees across Nigeria’s 774 local governments.

He outlined the structure of the initiative, stating that the newly selected Fellows would undergo training over the next 12 to 18 months, with access to cutting-edge content and physical learning centres in proximity to their locations.

“This will make them learn at their own pace and also link them up to physical learning locations close to where they live.

“The goal is to empower our people with the necessary skill set to participate effectively in the global digital economy.

“By doing so, we not only strengthen our workforce but also fortify our economy against external challenges,” stated Tijani.

Tijani revealed plans to support Fellows interested in pursuing entrepreneurship ventures post-training, with partnerships being forged to assist in establishing technology-focused businesses.

“As we continue interacting, we are working with partners to ensure those who want to go the route of entrepreneurship can be supported to kick off their small businesses to start their technology start-ups,” he said.

He expressed optimism that these ventures would contribute to addressing pressing issues in Nigeria through innovative technological solutions.

Launched in November 2023, the 3MTT initiative stands as the world’s largest talent accelerator, aimed at enhancing the utilization of technology across various sectors and transforming government services.

Through the initiative, the Federal Government seeks to create a workforce equipped to drive technological advancements and contribute to national development, underlining its potential to reshape Nigeria’s digital landscape and foster innovation-driven growth.
