Kogi NAWOJ Calls for Women Empowerment, Inclusion in Governance

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, urged governments at all levels to empower women and prioritize their involvement in leadership and governance.

Chairperson, Mrs. Stella Edoka made this appeal during the association’s International Women’s Day celebration at the NUJ secretariat in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

Emphasising the importance of women’s empowerment for their independence, Mrs. Edoka called on the government to take necessary steps to promote women’s empowerment and inclusion across all sectors of the economy.

“The government should do the needful concerning women empowerment and inclusion in every sector of the economy,”she stated.

The event focused on the theme ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ highlighting the significance of investing in women and supporting their overall progress.

School girls from various secondary schools in the state attended the program.

Mrs. Abimbola Agbogun, CEO of Challenge Parenthood Initiative (CPI), a key speaker at the event, reiterated the vital role women play in driving development, emphasising that investing in women yields significant returns. She encouraged young girls to prioritise their education, stating, “Investing in the education of girls leads to empowerment and prosperity for the state and the nation.”

The students received educational materials and sanitary pads, uplifting their spirits and inspiring them for a brighter future.
