The Oyo State Government has restated its commitment to realizing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for education, through collaborative efforts with all stakeholders in the basic education sub-sector.

The Executive Chairman, of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Adeniran, stated this during a sensitisation training for staff members by a Germany-based education firm, EIDU, held at the board’s Conference Room.

Adeniran stressed that the programme will contribute to the government’s efforts to build a strong foundation for learners, noting that the state government, through the board, has put plans in place to improve the expected standard for reading, writing and mathematics in basic schools.

The Chairman said Oyo State basic education learners are digitally inclined, affirming that the introduction of the EIDU Digital Learning Programme to the state, structured to build e-learning and digital capacity in the state basic education sub-sector, will improve the board’s intent for its learners.

He stated: “By 2030, Oyo State will be well positioned to develop a strong digital learning, which will have a transformational impact on the state and entire nation at large.”

The EIDU had earlier trained 25 staff of the board, including selected head teachers, class teachers, and Quality Assurance officers from Ona-Ara, Iseyin, Ogbomoso South, and Ibadan South West Local Government areas to equip them with necessary digital skills.

The Team lead, Operations, EIDU, Silas Armandos, said the programme will give learners and teachers access to curriculum-aligned content, noting that each learner will receive immediate learning feedback.

Armando explained that the trained participants went back to classes with Android phones, and relevant teaching materials for the implementation of the EIDU Digital Learning Programme, disclosing that over 300,000 learners have been registered on the EIDU device.

He said: “Global learning crisis needs to be solved through a platform like EIDU, where contents will be in line with the curriculum of each country.”

Also speaking, the Team lead, of Government Relations, EIDU, Ignatius Attah, affirmed that the literacy programme will transform the course of education in Oyo State and build a strong foundation through the provision of increased learning outcomes in schools.

EIDU, a German word, loosely translated as “Individual Education,” is introducing a digital literacy programme to Nigeria, using Oyo and Katsina as its pilot states.
