Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido delivered an energetic and captivating performance at the United Bank for Africa’s (UBA) 75th anniversary celebration held on Tuesday. Known for his dynamic stage presence, Davido entertained the crowd with a lineup of his iconic hits, including fan-favorites like Risky, Skelewu, and Aye. His performance was a highlight of the event, celebrating UBA’s milestone anniversary with a burst of Afrobeat energy and nostalgia, thrilling fans with songs that have defined his career.
The UBA 75th anniversary celebration was graced by notable attendees, including Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of UBA, and Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima. Vice-President Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu, who was attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the time. Their presence added to the prestige of the event, highlighting the importance of UBA’s milestone in Africa’s banking and financial sector.
During his address at the UBA 75th anniversary celebration, Vice-President Kashim Shettima reiterated Nigeria’s longstanding call for permanent representation for both Nigeria and Africa on the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized the continent’s increasing importance on the global stage and the need for fairer representation in global decision-making forums. This call aligns with broader efforts by African leaders to secure a more prominent role for Africa in international governance, reflecting the continent’s growing influence in political, economic, and security matters.
“The security council should be expanded, in the permanent and non-permanent member categories, to reflect the diversity and plurality of the world. We fully support the efforts of secretary-general Guterres in this regard,” Tinubu said.
“Africa must be accorded the respect that it deserves in the security council. Our continent deserves a place in the permanent members category of the security council, with the same rights and responsibilities as other permanent members.”
