Works Ministry Launches System To Access Civil Servants

The Federal Ministry of Works in Nigeria has launched a Performance Management System, PMS to access and review members of staff with the aim to improve their performance.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata while launching the PMS at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja said it was in line with a directive from the Head of Civil Service.

He said; “the PMS which will be done on Thursday weekly will review employees’ performance across all on-going tasks, as well as projects within the Ministry.

“Today’s launch marks a critical step forward in our pursuit of excellence. The PMS will allow us to monitor progress, identify challenges and ensure we remain on track to meet our organisational, also national goals,” he stated.

While listing out the benefits of the PMS, he said it would re-invigorate the Civil Servants, improve productivity, improve employees’ engagement amongst others.

The Permanent Secretary expressed the Ministry’s readiness to implement and institutionalise the PMS as a measure for staff as enshrined in the Revised Public Service Rules 2024.

The Ministry’s Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi explained that the PMS Day Launch was meant to shed light on what PMS is all about.

He further explained that “the performance assessment of Civil Servants will now be done objectively as opposed to the use of the hitherto flawed and compromised Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) system.”
