The Nigeria Football Federation has said Augustine Eguavoen will retain his position as the interim coach of the Super Eagles.

The appointment followed a recommendation from the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

NFF disclosed this in a statement on X on Thursday.

The statement reads, “The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen to continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month.

The 58-year-old, in temporary charge of the squad he had led three times previously, steered the three-time African champions to a 3-0 defeat of Benin Republic and a scoreless draw with Rwanda in Matchdays 1 and 2 earlier this month.”

Eguavoen, who previously served as the NFF’s Technical Director, will now lead the national team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya, set for next month. This appointment further cements his role after a successful tenure as interim coach.

In a related development, the NFF Executive Committee has also approved the Technical and Development Sub-Committee’s recommendation for Coach Justin Madugu to oversee the remaining technical staff and take charge of the Senior Women National Team, the Super Falcons until a permanent head coach is appointed.

This change comes in the wake of Randy Waldrum’s unexpected departure.

The Super Falcons’ next significant challenge will be the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco during the summer of next year.
