Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Intensify Collaboration with Red Cross in New York

The Association of the Wives of Nigerian Governors, Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum have intensified their collaboration with the Red Cross.

The forum which was led by its Chairperson, Ambassador and Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, the first lady of Kwara State made the move in New York during its visit to the Red Cross office at the 79th UN General Assembly’s High-Level Week.

The forum while addressing the Red Cross noted that their visit was aimed at strengthening partnership between the international organisation and First Ladies’ offices across Nigeria’s states.

The first ladies assured of their readiness to collaborate more with the International organisation through championing the organisation’s activities in their respective states.

They also promised to introduce the Nigerian Red Cross to the Nigerian Governors Forum.

The First Ladies further pledged to foster stronger ties with local Red Cross branches.

Advancing the American Red Cross

Also during the meeting, the first ladies engaged with the Tiffany Circle, a community of women leaders who are advancing the American Red Cross Mission through a focused investment of time, talent and treasure by engaging women locally, nationally and internationally.

In his remarks, Secretary General, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies , Jagan Chapagain who led the Red Cross team expressed gratitude for the First Ladies’ support and sought additional collaboration.

He added that the meeting marks a significant step towards bolstering humanitarian efforts in Nigeria and further shows how this collaboration could bring about hope to the common people.

Members of Red Cross present at the meeting included Dylan Winder, IFRC Permanent Observer to the UN Mission and Ameen Abdul, National Youth Chairman and Governing Board Member, Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Red Cross is a global humanitarian network created in 1863 by the Swiss Humanitarian, Henry Dunant focusing on preventing and alleviating human suffering wherever it may be found.
