The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has emerged as a frontrunner in implementing the Performance Management System (PMS) within Nigeria’s public service.
The disclosure was made by Mrs. Titi Akisanya, a consultant from Zohar, during a PMS appraisal session with the agency’s management in Abuja.
PMS has become a key tool in government reforms, playing a central role in planning, management and budgeting to enhance accountability.
Since its launch by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, PMS has been hailed as a modern system that sets serious organisations apart. It is also one of the six pillars of the Federal Civil Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP25), making it a top priority for the Federal Government.
FERMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, highlighted the agency’s dedication to the Performance Management Reform Initiative, aligning with the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Over the past 18 months, FERMA has made notable progress, ensuring that 97% of its employees have signed performance contracts with their supervisors, and completing the Performance Management Cycle.
This progress culminated in the 2023 Performance Appraisal Closeout, which laid the foundation for the 2024 promotion exercise based on the new PMS. The agency is now recognised as one of the leading public institutions fully implementing the PMS across Nigeria.
During the PMS session, Mr. Agbasi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining these achievements and fostering a culture of performance management to drive continued success.
