Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has granted clemency to 23 inmates.

This is in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day and Gombe State’s 28th anniversary.

The governor made this announcement during his goodwill message to the people of Gombe State, marking the dual occasions.

The clemency not only includes the release of convicts but also the reduction of several sentences.

Specifically, two life sentences have been commuted to 15 years, two death sentences were reduced to life imprisonment, and one detainee’s sentence was adjusted to 10 years.

Also, four death row inmates had their sentences commuted to 15 years in prison.

Governor Yahaya explained that the decisions were based on recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and expressed hope that the pardoned individuals would take advantage of the opportunity to rehabilitate and reintegrate into society.

Reflecting on the progress Gombe has made since its establishment in 1996, Governor Yahaya urged citizens to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that these values are essential for the state’s continued development.

He acknowledged the economic challenges faced by many residents, particularly in the wake of fuel subsidy removal and inflation.
In response to these hardships, the governor reassured citizens that the government remains committed to easing their burden through various palliative measures.

Governor Yahaya said the measures included the distribution of food supplies to over 750,000 beneficiaries and the provision of transport allowances for state workers.

Minimum Wage

Further discussions on implementing a new minimum wage are also underway.
He also highlighted his administration’s achievements in key sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure, as well as the construction of over 900 kilometers of roads across all 11 local government areas.

The Gombe State Governor, who doubles at the Chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, said his administration had also expanded healthcare facilities, and improved access to education by building classrooms and hiring new teachers.

Improve Living Conditions

He pledged to continue focusing on empowering youth, supporting farmers, and improving the overall quality of life for families across Gombe State, while calling for patience and unity among citizens in the face of ongoing economic difficulties, expressing confidence that current reforms would eventually lead to a stronger and more prosperous future.

Governor Yahaya urged residents to celebrate with gratitude for the progress made, while renewing their commitment to building a future rooted in unity, prosperity, and opportunity for all.

He prayed for peace and stability in Gombe and Nigeria, while reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the state’s long-term growth in line with its development agenda.
