As Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa has paid tribute to the nation’s founding fathers for their significant contributions to the country’s unity and resilience.
Reflecting on the past, General Musa emphasised the importance of the founding leaders’ tenacity, sacrifice, and unwavering love for Nigeria, which have helped maintain the nation’s integrity over the years.
“This is not to say the journey to nationhood had been all smooth, despite the fact that we obtained our independence without bloodshed,” he noted.
General Musa expressed gratitude for the nation’s survival, particularly highlighting the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces in defending Nigeria.
He called on all military personnel to uphold their commitment to patriotism and professionalism, ensuring peace and stability across the country.
He pointed out that, given the great responsibilities the Armed Forces have shouldered over the years, it is crucial to prioritise patriotism and loyalty to established authorities.
“There are norms and values that bind us as a nation, and by promoting these collectively, we can improve our country for everyone,” he stated.

Celebrating a significant milestone, General Musa noted that the Armed Forces have remained in the barracks for the past 25 years, supporting democratically elected governments and maintaining stability in the nation.
He praised the bravery of the troops, who have been pivotal in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities, while urging all Nigerians to contribute to national security by reporting suspicious activities.
He cautioned those harboring negative sentiments towards the nation and warned that the Armed Forces would not tolerate subversive elements aiming to destabilize Nigeria.
In closing, General Musa expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support in equipping the military to secure the nation. He also acknowledged the contributions of other government branches to nation-building.
The CDS extended warm independence anniversary wishes to all Nigerians, encouraging unity and commitment to the country’s continued progress.
