The Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC) Niger state Chapter in North Central Nigeria, comrade Idris Lafeni has acknowledged that the country remaining a united entity despite all ups and down is something commendable.

Mr Lafeni stated this in an interview with Voice of Nigeria’ Zonal Correspondent Abubakar Hassan in Minna, the state capital where he gave insight of what it takes for the country to remain unbreakable despite the religious, cultural and language differences.

“We have come of age for is to have survived longer years of Independence and Democracy which in itself is an achievement though, we have alot of challenges as a developing nation but gradually we will be able to summount such challenges in terms of hunger, poverty as well as infrastructural decay in the country”

On the issue of unemployment and the collapse of industries in Nigeria, Mr Lafeni said all hands must be on deck to resuscitate the decayed industries in Nigeria and not government alone.

“It bother me a lot especially when you look at the textiles industries . In the last decade, they have being employer of labour but now such industries are no where to be found in Nigeria. Ordinariry, government have no business to be an employer of labour by to provide an enabling environment for industries to strive which will serve the purpose of reducing unemployment to the nearest minimum in the county”.

The NLC Chairman explained that the Niger state government is doing its best to boost the economic and Agricultural sector but accurate policy need to be put in place to achieve the set goals in the state.

“For now the governor is doing his best to attract investors but nothing is being done to boost the processing of the abundant raw materials we have in Niger state.the governor is serious about farming but government should divert from crop cultivation to crop processing centres here in state whereby the raw farming produce can be processed here and take to various parts of the country and this will boost the commercial and economic hub of the state which will also inturn increase the  internally generated  revenue of the state”.

He therefore called on the workers of the state to remain optimistic and pray for Nigeria and also remain patriotic and committed to developing the country for socio-economic development to strive in the country.
