The Kano State Governor in North West Nigeria, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the Distribution of learning materials to schools across the 44 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Governor launched the distribution at a ceremony in Government House, Kano.
The learning materials include 120,000 cartons of chalks, 97,532 workbooks, 93,600 exercise books, 199,234 classroom registers as well as thousands of report sheets, lesson observations books, and the new national anthem booklets.
According to Governor Yusuf, the gesture is in fulfillment of his declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector and a step towards getting the education sector back to its footing.
He noted that the revival of the unfortunate state of education from the immediate past administration will return the lost glories of education in the state.
The Governor emphasized that this will be achieved by ensuring the reopening of all Institutions previously shut down, provision of infrastructure, and closing the gap out of school children.
“I am happy to say that as the people’s government, we are fully committed to addressing these issues in our commitment to restore the educational system.
“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that we transform the educational sector in our dear state.”
Governor Yusuf pointed out that training and retraining of teachers has been part of the government’s priority and construction of new blocks of classrooms to ensure a conducive learning environment for school children.
The state commissioner of education, Umar Haruna, commended the governor for his untiring support of the education sector as well as his commitment to reviving the sector.
He said the declaration of the State of Emergency on education by the governor has been a promise well delivered beyond the expectations of the people of Kano state.
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi extolled the virtues of Governor Yusuf and his commitment to addressing people’s challenges.
Other union leaders who spoke saluted Governor Yusuf’s development initiatives and policies for good governance.
