The Labour Party, LP caucus of the National Assembly has told the Anambra state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to withdraw his proposed Bill seeking to upturn the Supreme Court’s judgement on local Government’s financial Autonomy from the State Assembly.

The group led by Senator Tony Nwoye said that the proposed Bill titled, ‘Anambra State Local Government Administration Law, 2024’ is currently at the Committee’s stage.

They also warned the State Assembly against undermining the rulings of the Judiciary as well as the extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

According to him, the state Governor who has been less supportive to security agencies in the state upon assuming office, seems ready to syphon the local government’s funds at the detriment of the people, despite the recent court judgement.

Similarly, the Deputy Whip of the House, Mr. George Ozodinobi noted that the state Governor was challenging the Nigerian government and the attorney general of the federation over their recent approval.

He appealed to him for a withdrawal of his intended proposal in order to avoid an unforseen situation.

While urging Governor Soludo to retrace his steps as soon possible to avoid unsolicited issues, the caucus however pointed out the need for him to be mindful of the judgement of history.
