X’s Payment Error Delays Service Resumption, Says Brazil Supreme Court
Brazil’s Supreme Court announced on Friday that social media platform X’s lawyers failed to pay pending fines to the correct bank, delaying the decision on whether the platform can resume services in the country.
X, owned by Elon Musk, has been suspended in Brazil since late August for non-compliance with hate speech moderation orders and failing to appoint a legal representative, as required by law.
Earlier on Friday, X filed a request to restore its services, asserting that all pending fines were paid. However, Justice Alexandre de Moraes requested the transfer to be made to the correct bank account.

He stated that once the payments are correctly processed, Brazil’s prosecutor general will give an opinion on the platform’s requests to resume operations.
Following this decision, X’s lawyers denied that payments were made to the wrong account and questioned the need for the prosecutor general’s input. The suspension will remain until over $5 million in fines are correctly settled.
In the past weeks, X complied with some of the Supreme Court’s orders, including blocking certain accounts under investigation, and asked for the suspension to be lifted.
