Google Tests Check Marks for Verified Companies in Search Results

Google is currently testing the addition of check marks next to specific companies in its search results, according to a company spokesperson on Friday.  This initiative aims to assist users in identifying verified sources and avoiding fraudulent websites.

Fraudulent sites that mimic legitimate businesses or services can appear in online search results, misleading users and potentially damaging the brand’s reputation.

“We regularly test features that help shoppers recognize trustworthy businesses online, and we are conducting a small experiment that shows check marks next to certain businesses on Google,” the spokesperson stated.

Google already employs automated systems to detect “scammy” or fraudulent content and prevents such pages from appearing in search results.

The Verge reported this development earlier on Friday, noting that it had observed blue verified check marks next to official links for companies like Microsoft, Meta, and Apple in search results.

However, only a select group of users can currently see this feature, indicating that Google has not yet conducted a wide rollout of the test.
