Katsina State Teachers Seek Restoration Of 27.5% Peculiar Allowance

The Katsina State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called on the Governor, Malam Dikko Radda to restore the 27.5 percent teachers peculiar allowance in the state

The Chairperson of the NUT in Katsina, Rakiya Shehu Runka made the appeal in an event to commemorate this years World Teachers Day held in Katsina.

According to the her, the allowance was to be paid to the teachers before it was later suspended in 2011.

She said that “restoring the allowances to the teachers would make them to benefit like their counterparts in other states there by boosting their abilities to deliver their services deligently.

Rakiya Runka however commended the Governor Radda for performing positively in the aspect of educational development.

She said “Construction and renovation of schools, periodic training of teachers among other things by the Governor are worthy of commendation.

“The Union and and the entire teachers in Katsina state are highly appreciative to the present state administration under Governor Radda.”

The chairperson also expressed the union’s appreciation for the present state’s administration for employing over 7000 teachers in the state.

She also commended the state Governor for prompt payment of teachers salaries and timely implementation of teachers periodic promotion.

In his goodwill message at the occasion, Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Radda described teachers as the bedrock of every society, shaping the future of the state and nation.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Nura Katsayal, Governor Radda reiterated the State Government’s commitment to rewarding and supporting teachers.

Governor Radda extended heartfelt congratulations to all teachers in Katsina State on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2024.

“This year’s theme, Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” resonates deeply with the our vision for education in the state,” the Governor affirmed.

He emphasised the critical role of teachers in shaping the future of Katsina and the nation at large.

“Our teachers are the architects of tomorrow, moulding the minds that will lead our state and country forward,” the Governor stated.

He said; “It is our duty to ensure they are valued, supported, and rewarded adequately for their invaluable contributions.

“In line with this year’s theme, our administration has been actively working to amplify teacher voices and improve their welfare.”
