Governor Soludo Boosts Traders Sports With Increased Prize Money

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has officially inaugurated a 27-member Main Organizing Committee (MOC) for the highly anticipated 2024 Anambra State Traders Competition and also doubled the prize money. The ceremony took place at the Anambra State Market Traders Association (ASMATA) Secretariat in Onitsha.

Representing the Governor at the event, Chief Evarist Ubah, the Special Adviser on Trade, emphasized the importance of the competition in fostering unity and camaraderie among Anambra traders through sports. Chief Ubah urged the elderly to participate in indoor games while encouraging young, athletic apprentices to showcase their skills in football and other sporting activities. He announced that the prize money for top performers has been doubled this year, making the competition even more competitive.

Mr. Patrick Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC), highlighted the significance of the competition in catering to the large population of sports enthusiasts among traders. He emphasized that the athletes would not only compete for glory but also for monetary rewards on behalf of their markets. Mr. Onyedum urged market leaders to ensure the active participation of their members to promote social interaction and sportsmanship.

The traders’ sports competition is scheduled to take place from October to the first week of December. Mr. Onyedum reiterated Governor Soludo’s commitment to the welfare of traders, stating that this year’s edition would be even bigger and better than before.

President General of ASMATA, Humphrey Anuna, commended Governor Soludo for his dedication to the well-being and physical fitness of traders. He assured that traders would be fully mobilized for the upcoming sporting events, promising significant improvements compared to the previous edition.

In addition to the MOC, six subcommittees were formed and inaugurated to oversee various aspects of the competition, including Technical, Administration, Finance/Mobilization, Venue/Facility/Security, and Media/Publicity Ceremonial/Protocol. The competition will feature a range of sports including Tennis, Football, Draught, Table Tennis, and Ncho/Ayo.

With the prize money increased and excitement in the air, the 2024 Traders Sports Competition promises to be a thrilling and competitive event that celebrates unity, sportsmanship, and the vibrant trading community of Anambra State.
