Stakeholders involved in the development of the tourism sector have emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the implementation of projects outlined in the agreements between Nigeria and China.

This is seen as crucial for the advancement of the tourism industry in Nigeria.

The call was made in Abuja at a press conference organized to highlight the importance of the agreements signed between Nigeria and China and the way forward towards achieving the desired goals.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the Tourism Volunteers Network and the convener of the conference, Phil Roberts, stated that with infrastructure in place, the tourism sector will thrive.

Let us remember that development without accountability is not development at all. It is our collective duty to ensure that the dreams of a better Nigeria, powered by this strategic partnership, do not remain dreams but reality.

“This coalition stands ready to make this vision a reality. Together, we can ensure that these projects lead to a future where Nigeria’s growth is driven by transparency, efficiency, and a shared determination,” he said.

Roberts explained that, in a world where international partnerships are key to driving progress, Nigeria is on track to enter a new phase of cooperation with the People’s Republic of China; however, accountability and transparency are crucial.

Through the use of blockchain technology, we will track the flow of funds. Our web-based monitoring platform will provide the public with real-time updates on the status of infrastructure projects,” he said.

According to the President, of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, Ogakwu Dominic, it is time Nigerians change the narrative about the country to attract tourists to the country.

He emphasized the importance of the media in promoting positive narratives and content about Nigeria.

This, he believes, will enhance Nigeria’s appeal as a travel destination, showcasing its hospitable people and stunning landscapes.

On her part the Special Assistant on Community Engagements, to the Minister of Tourism, Elizabeth Pam, stressed that infrastructure is pivotal to the success of tourism in Nigeria, noting that infrastructure has to happen but before that, there are things we can do to promote tourism.

“We have enough to make Nigeria attractive to people, such as our culture, food, fashion, music and the rest. We need to tell positive stories about Nigeria. We have a lot of good things and the stories need to be told. We call on the media to help us promote positive stories from our communities,” she noted.

The event was organized by the Tourism Volunteers Network in collaboration with the China Tourism Promoters, Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, and Civil Society Organizations.
