The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, Major General Kevin Aligbe, has reminded candidates of the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE) that the examination is a crucial factor in their career progression in the Nigerian Army.

Maj Gen Aligbe, who also serves as the Examination President, made this known during his address to the candidates of the 2024 CMPPE held at the Dome International Culture and Events Centre, Akure, Ondo State.

He urged the candidates to approach the examination with the seriousness and determination necessary to achieve the best possible results.

The 2024 CMPPE is currently being conducted within the 2 Division Nigerian Army’s Area of Responsibility at the Headquarters of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Military Cantonment, Akure, Ondo State.

Maj Gen Aligbe explained that “the purpose of his address was to outline the Nigerian Army’s expectations for the candidates as they undergo this career progression exercise.”

He further emphasised that the examination presents a golden opportunity for candidates to consolidate their careers, as it is a key requirement for attending the Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, or at various accredited staff colleges abroad. Therefore, the importance of qualifying cannot be overstated.

Maj Gen Aligbe also stated that “the examination serves not only as an assessment of the candidates’ current proficiency levels but also as a means to evaluate their future capabilities in handling responsibilities within the Nigerian Army.”

He said that “the examination aligned with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-Trained, Equipped, and Highly Motivated Force Toward Achieving its Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint Environment.”

He encouraged the candidates to have absolute confidence in their abilities and to show a steadfast determination to succeed within the bounds of legal and ethical standards.

He added that there is no need for pessimism or fear of failure if they have adequately prepared for the examination.

In his address of welcome to the participants of the 2024 CMPPE, the Chief Host, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Obinna Onubogu urged the candidates to put forth their best efforts, maintain decorum, and uphold discipline to ensure success in the examination.

Maj Gen Onubogu highlighted the significance of the examination, noting that “it serves to elevate candidates to the middle cadre of the Nigerian Army.”

He reassured the candidates that adequate preparations have been made for the smooth conduct of the examination.

Maj Gen Onubogu also reminded them to adhere strictly to the examination rules and regulations and to maintain the highest levels of integrity and discipline expected of Nigerian Army officers.

The GOC also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for granting the 2 Division the privilege of hosting the event.

He assured the Examination President and his team of the unwavering commitment and support of the officers and soldiers of the Headquarters 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, in ensuring a successful and hitch-free 2024 CMPPE.

Additionally, Maj Gen Onubogu requested the participants to observe a minute of silence in honor of two TRADOC Nigerian Army soldiers who tragically lost their lives en route to Akure for the examination.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Maj Gen Olusegun Abai; Chief of Training TRADOC NA, Maj Gen Peter Okoye; Acting Director of Examinations TRADOC NA, Brig Gen Godwin Nwamba; Commander 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig Gen John Lar; representatives from Army Headquarters; Principal Staff Officers from Headquarters 2 Division NA and TRADOC NA; examination panelists; and the Directing Staff for the 2024 CMPPE, among others.
