Sokoto State Governor Bags Presidential Award for Excellence

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has been conferred with an Award of Excellence and Outstanding Performance in the execution of developmental projects in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement, Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, presented the award to Governor Aliyu during a courtesy visit at Government House, Sokoto.

He said the award is in recognition of the Governor’s efforts in evenly transforming the state.

“I was opportune to visit many parts of the state, especially in the metropolis, and from what I have seen so far, the governor is working,” Yakasai stated.

He said the Community Engagement Department established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is meant to receive responses or feedback from the Nigerian populace on various people-oriented progremammes being executed by the federal government across the federation.

“We have a conditional cash transfer progrmme which Mr. President has introduced in order to assist Nigerians, especially the youth.

“I have already allocated 300 slots for students of the Sokoto State University in order to ensure that Sokoto benefits from the gesture,” he disclosed.

Yakasai further pledged to provide additional slots for the state to ensure that more people are enrolled in the programme.

“Let me remind our people that for everyone to get enrolled into the conditional cash transfer he or she must have a NIN number,” he added.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu thanked the Senior Special Assistant for the award, which he described as a clarion call to do more.

In a statement by Governor Aliyu’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, the Governor also praised President Bola Tinubu for the Renewed Hope Agenda which is aimed at transforming the country.

“I also like to commend our dear President for executing various projects in the state which include water schemes in various parts of the state.

“We are 100 percent behind our dear president and we’d continue to pray for him to succeed,” he assured.

Also in his remarks, the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, told the Governor that his Ministry had executed several water projects across the state, which had also been commissioned by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement.

He assured the governor that more of such projects are in the pipeline, stating that an irrigation programme is equally in the in progress.

“We have so far identified 3 locations where the irrigation activities are to be carried out in the state,” added.

The Minister further said the federal government under the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation had introduced several programmes aimed at improving irrigation activities across the federation.

He called on Nigerians to take advantage of these initiatives and participate in irrigation activities to bolster food sufficiency in the country.
