The National Pension Commission says the process for applying for pension clearance certificates will become fully automated by January 2025.

The Head of the Investment Supervision Department at PenCom, Mr Abdulkadir Dahiru, disclosed this in an interview at the launch of the commission’s Service Charter and Framework as part of Customer Service Week celebrations in Abuja.

Dahiru said the essence of the automation was to make it easier for employers to access the clearance certificate.

“The pension clearance certificate is one of the essential services that is provided by the National Pension Commission. The reason for it is just to ensure that employers also fulfill their obligation to their employees. We are aware that in the past there have been issues around getting the compliance certificate, especially because people want to use it to apply for government contracts. To that effect, and based on the Commission’s renewed strategy to improve its services, the whole process of issuing pension compliance certificates has been automated”

“Starting from next year, employers can sit in the comfort of their homes and offices, apply for these pension certificates, upload the necessary documentation, and wait within five working days to receive their pension clearance certificate”.

Launching the commission’s Service Charter and Framework, the acting Director-General of PenCom, Omolola Bridget-Oloworaran, described the Service Charter is designed to define clear service delivery expectations, for PenCom, Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) and other operators.
“It sets the benchmarks that will govern our interactions and ensure that the trust placed in us by the Nigerian public is maintained and continually enhanced”. She stated,

“As the regulator of Nigeria’s pension industry, PenCom has an unwavering commitment to ensuring that the services provided to all stakeholders—especially our contributors and retirees—are not only efficient but also uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and responsiveness. Today’s launch represents a pivotal step forward in strengthening this commitment.”
