Nigeria’s former Green Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Fregene, has died after a prolonged illness. Segun Odegbami, a close friend and ex-international, confirmed the news.

Fregene, known for his exceptional reflexes and resilience, represented Nigeria at the 1968 Olympics and was a key player in the national team during the 1960s and 1970s. His agility earned him the nickname ‘Apo.”

He passed away surrounded by his wife, Tina, and two children, after being on life support for a week. Odegbami thanked all who supported Fregene during his illness.

Fregene’s legacy as one of Nigeria’s football greats will be remembered.
