In a momentous event, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, has honored Mrs. Rosemary Okorafor, a registered nurse from Karchi General Hospital, for receiving the prestigious Daisy Award, the first of its kind for Nigeria.

This award celebrates nurses who exemplify excellence in patient care, and Okorafor’s achievement highlights the dedication of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (FCT).
During the award presentation, Dr. Fasawe praised the resilience of FCT nurses, noting that despite fierce competition, Okorafor’s commitment to her patients set her apart.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Mandate Secretary Bola Ajao, Dr. Fasawe said the Daisy Award is presented by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNA), which underscored that the selection process was thorough and transparent.
In addition to celebrating nursing excellence, Dr. Fasawe addressed pressing issues within the healthcare system, issuing a stern warning against illegal practices where hospitals charge patients for basic medical supplies.
“Such actions are unacceptable, particularly for families already facing distress in emergency situations. To ensure compliance, a monitoring team will soon conduct inspections of local hospitals, I encouraged patients and their families to report any violations, we reiterate the government’s commitment to providing essential medical supplies free of charge”. She added.
The event not only recognized Okorafor’s remarkable achievements but also aimed to inspire the nursing community while tackling ongoing challenges in the healthcare sector.
