The Federal Ministry of Education has signed an agreement with Maslaha Homes and Development Limited to enhance the infrastructure of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult, and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) in Kano State.
This partnership is aimed at addressing the growing need for improved facilities to support the commission’s work in promoting literacy and non-formal education, ensuring greater access to learning opportunities for adults and underserved communities in the state.
It marks the beginning of the development of 13 critical infrastructure projects at the NMEC centre in Kano, which will greatly enhance the Commission’s capacity to deliver quality educational services.
A statement by the Director of press, Boriowo Folashade noted that the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo at the signing ceremony emphasized the importance of the collaboration, calling it a milestone achievement.
He said; “I am delighted to sign this landmark agreement between Maslaha Homes and Development Limited, NMEC, and the Federal Ministry of Education, marking a significant milestone in enhancing NMEC Kano’s infrastructure.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to Maslaha Homes for their professionalism and dedication in completing the necessary documentation, which was cleared by Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC )and approved by the Federal Executive Council and the Federal Ministry of Justice.
“Today, we formally seal this partnership for the construction of 13 critical infrastructure projects, and I urge Maslaha Homes to maintain high standards,” Dr. Sani-Gwarzo
He further highlighted the significance of the projects, stressing that they would contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria’s education sector, particularly in the area of mass literacy and non-formal education.
Dr. Sani-Gwarzo thanked all stakeholders involved for their tireless efforts in ensuring the success of this project.
The Director of Special Duties at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Zubairu Abdullahi provided an overview of the project’s journey.
Mr Abdullahi explained that the proposal for the development was initiated by Maslaha Homes through a land swap deal.
“The firm made a proposal to the Ministry, followed all due processes, and completed the necessary documentation, including the Outlined Business Case (OBC) and Full Business Case (FBC), both of which were cleared by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC),” he stated.
The project was granted final approval by the Federal Executive Council, and the Federal Ministry of Justice has given full clearance for the agreement.
The contract signing ceremony was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, which is a formalisation of the groundbreaking collaboration.
The construction of these 13 infrastructure projects is expected to significantly enhance NMEC’s capacity to provide educational services, furthering the Ministry’s commitment to improving mass literacy and non-formal education across Nigeria.
