The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has extended heartfelt congratulations to General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, on his 90th birthday.
Governor Yahaya praised Gowon as a patriotic leader whose life has been dedicated to the service, unity, and peace of Nigeria.
In his tribute, Governor Yahaya lauded the former Head of State as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s history, whose leadership during the civil war helped preserve the nation’s unity.
He emphasized that Gowon’s commitment to keeping Nigeria together remains a cornerstone of the country’s identity.
The NSGF Chairman also highlighted Gowon’s post-war contributions, particularly the “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy and the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), both of which he credited with promoting national healing and integration.
Additionally, Governor Yahaya acknowledged General Gowon’s role in the formation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which continues to foster regional cooperation and development.
He also praised Gowon’s spiritual leadership, citing the “Nigeria Prays” initiative as a testament to his humility, moral leadership, and enduring commitment to peace and reconciliation.
“As you celebrate this milestone, we reflect on your legacy with gratitude and pride,” Governor Yahaya said on behalf of the 19 northern governors. Your exemplary life has inspired generations of leaders, reminding us of the importance of unity, peace, and service to the nation. We pray that the Almighty continues to bless you,” Governor Yahaya said.
