Missouri to Investigate Google for Allegations of Censoring Conservative Speech

Missouri’s Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced on Thursday that he is initiating an investigation into Google over accusations of censoring conservative speech. Google has rejected these allegations as “totally false.”

Republicans have long alleged a bias against conservatives on social media platforms, a claim that tech companies have consistently denied.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who is in a competitive race for the November 5 election against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, stated last month that he would pursue legal action against Google if he is elected. Trump and his supporters have claimed—without providing evidence—that Google searches only feature negative stories about him.

“I am launching an investigation into Google—the largest search engine in America—for censoring conservative speech during the most consequential election in our nation’s history,” Bailey stated in a post on social media platform X, though he did not provide any specific examples or evidence for his claims of censorship.

A Google spokesperson responded via email, saying, “These claims are totally false. Our search service is designed for all users, and our business relies on providing useful information to everyone, regardless of their political beliefs.”
