The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has announced a monthly nontaxable cash award of N10,000 for all pensioners in the state until pensions are reviewed. This move was made out of goodwill and empathy for the often overlooked pensioners, especially in discussions about the new minimum wage.

During a meeting with labour leaders at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka the state capital, Soludo also approved the immediate payment of the new minimum wage, ensuring that the least paid worker in Anambra State will receive a minimum of N70,000 per month, with the possibility of more depending on government tabulation.

Governor Soludo reiterated his commitment to a safer Anambra by announcing the impending arrival of hundreds of security vehicles for vigilant groups and other security agencies. He also encouraged workers to consider the Contributory Pension scheme to avoid future pension-related issues.

The NLC Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for his worker-friendly policies and announced the Governor’s donation of a piece of land for the construction of the NLC state Secretariat, known as Workers House, describing the gesture as unprecedented since Anambra’s creation in 1991.

Meanwhile, Governor Soludo’s recent initiatives demonstrate his dedication to improving the welfare of workers and pensioners in Anambra State.

In attendance at the meeting were organized labour leaders such as the Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, and Trade Union Congress Chairman, Comrade Chris Ogbonna, as well as representatives from various other unions.
