Kano Election Situation Room Commends LG Polls Process

The Kano State Civil Society Election Situation Room has expressed satisfaction with electoral arrangements put in place by the Kano State Government and the State Independent Electoral Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) in the conduct of councils polls.

 

The Situation Room Coordinator who is also the Executive Director, Citizens for Development and Education Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya in an interview with journalists said, they were satisfied with the elections process after receiving reports from it’s various centres across the 44 local councils.

 

According Waiya, “our fundamental concern was about the peace and security of the state particularly looking at the two conflicting orders from the courts one was stopping the police from participating while one allowing them to take part.”

 

He said, reports being received so far has been satisfactory, considering impressive turn out of voters, peaceful conducts and compliance with the movement restriction order during the election hours.

 

Waiya explained that, despite the absence of the police in polling units, the conduct was peaceful, orderly and acceptable by the people. “We must commend the state government and KANSIEC under the able leadership of Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi for a well organized election. We are seeing a large number of people coming out to vote during local government election and despite withdrawal of security personnel there has been no report of any security threat.”

 

Ambassador Ibrahim also commended the media in it’s efforts to inform and ensuring credible reportage encouraging them to sustain the momentum explaining that the government rely on the media to disseminate it’s laudable human development policies and achievements for the consumption of the populace.

 

The Coordinator expressed optimism the elections will be concluded peacefully setting aside all plot to blackmail Kano state government from accessing Local Government Grants from the Federal Government by some enemies of the state.
